One of the first things I ask my clients is: Are you in control of your emotions or are they running the show?
When it comes to your emotions and overall mindset you have two choices. Fake it til you make it, or put in some hard yards and actually switch it around.
Fake it til you make it does work. The power of repetition and putting on a brave face will get you there eventually. But it’s a really long, difficult and unfulfilling process. Not allowing your true emotions to show and hiding behind a fake smile, can be soul destroying and lead to more problems than you solve.
So what’s the alternative?
Learn to acknowledge and process your emotions. Use tools such as affirmations and gratitude journaling to reinforce positive feelings. Find the best way, that works specifically for you, to tap into your own intuition. Look after yourself physically, mentally and spiritually. Eat food that nourishes your body. Stop putting yourself down all the time. Then do something every day that makes your soul sing.
But please, don’t try and do everything at once. Like all good things it takes some time. Unless you’re extremely close to a breakthrough already, it won’t happen overnight!
Taking control of your emotions and switching your mindset around is only as complicated as you choose to make it. Start by choosing just one thing that makes you feel great about yourself and do more of it. It really is as simple as that.
